Our story: Karibu Pamoja Foundation
Kindness that sparked a mission

The Karibu Pamoja Foundation was born out of real-life experiences that shaped not only our founder’s journey but also the heart behind this mission. When Damaris Waiyaki began her first job, the car she drove wasn’t her own. It was loaned to her by someone who believed in her until she could stand on her own. That simple act of generosity taught her the power of kindness and the strength of community.

A caregiver’s journey

As a medical social worker, Damaris has walked alongside families navigating complicated systems and searching for hope. Her passion became deeply personal when her daughter, at just 7 years old, was diagnosed with Pineoblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood brain cancer. She lived through hospital stays, radiation, and chemotherapy. She felt the emotional weight, fatigue, and isolation of caregiving while holding her family together and facing complex medical systems and financial strain.

Why we exist

Through it all, one truth became clear: no family should face hardship alone. Karibu Pamoja means “Welcome, Together.” We believe healing and progress happen in community. We walk alongside families and adults facing illness, job loss, caregiving responsibilities, or personal crises. Our programs offer encouragement, practical support, and access to vital resources that build stability, dignity, and hope. From resource navigation and employment support to wellness and family care, we meet people where they are and walk with them.
